Carl is President/CEO and has had more than 35 successful years in the risk management and insurance industry.
He began his career at a major stock insurance company and managed the Major Account Underwriting Operations in New York and Texas. In the late seventies he joined an established brokerage in Houston and was admitted to partnership the following year. The firm was eventually sold to a Los Angeles based public broker, and Carl moved to San Francisco to become Executive Vice President of the local office. He served in this capacity for more than ten years, through several acquisitions until he left what had become Aon Risk Services to join a regional broker as President of Risk Management Services.
Four years later Carl formed Santa Maria & Company with a focus on companies that are in need of the risk management expertise and customized service on either an outsourced or supplemental basis.
Carl is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and has served on numerous industry committees and organization boards. He has been a speaker and lecturer on various industry topics and recently moderated a seminar about the current state of California workers compensation.
